Favorite Flicks

When I decided to make this list, I had no idea what I was in for! Not only do I love a lot of movies, I love a lot of hard-to-categorize movies. For example, what is Fight Club? Drama, dark fantasy, thriller, or mystery? It's got elements of all those. And, my idea of "romantic" may be strange to some (I find Interview With the Vampire very romantic), and I've put some movies that are generally considered 'romance' in my epic category (like Gone With The Wind... GREAT movie, but it doesn't make me swoon).

So, I've done the best I can, with as little cross-referencing as possible (Cross refs in blue). Keep checking back, as I'm bound to keep adding when I remember or discover something else! Bear in mind, while these might be "favorite flicks" it doesn't necessarily mean they're the "best films" -- these are just movies that I enjoy, and most are in my DVD library.

Tear-jerkers *spoilers!*

Interview With the Vampire (1994)
(the scenes with Claudia begging Louis to make Madeleine a vampire, and the scene when Louis discovers the ashes, get me every time)

Legends of the Fall (1994)
(when Tristan can't save Samuel; when Susannah says to Tristan, "I'll wait for you... I'll wait forever for you"; when Col. Ludlow scrawls AM HAPPY on his chalkboard; when Tristan dies... "It was a good death.")

Ring of Bright Water (1969)
(I cry -- I mean tears flowing! -- when the otter is killed)

The Elephant Man (1980)
(When John is invited into the doctor's home)

A Star is Born (1976)
(when Ester hears John's recorded song, and thinks it's really him)

Guilty Pleasures
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994)
(Any movie in which somebody talks out of their butt shouldn't appeal to me. I'm above that, really I am!)

The Devil Within Her (1975)
(Rosemary's Baby meets The Leprechaun.)

There's Something About Mary (1998)

(The Breather likes to make prank calls while talking through a rubber chicken. One of the dumbest [and best] spoofs on the slasher genre.)

Clifford (1994)
(It's a pretty weak comedy, but I absolutely love Martin Short as the 10 year old brat. He is soooo talented!)
